Somewhere between the commute home and the last check of the phone, British rooms tend to switch on. Everything happens in English, which opens this hub to viewers from anywhere that shares it, from Sydney to Seattle.

The clock works in your favour from across the Atlantic: a London late evening is early evening in New York and mid-afternoon in Los Angeles, while viewers in Australia can catch these rooms over breakfast. Few hubs suit visitors on such different clocks.

Accents carry from Glasgow to Cornwall and from Belfast to Kent, and regional slang turns up in the chat often enough that asking what a word means is a perfectly good opener. Whether a room stays chatty or goes explicit is usually written in the topic line. Weekend nights can run late, while a quieter weekday room is often where the conversation flows most easily and the host has time to answer everyone. Read the menu, say hello, and enjoy understanding every word.
