Most Italian speakers share the same clock, from Turin to Palermo, across the Ticino and in San Marino, so this hub tends to keep compact hours. Communities further afield, in Argentina or Australia among others, add the occasional room at an unexpected time, a small reward for looking in late.

Accents often give a host's region away within a sentence or two, and the rooms vary just as much. Some are polished studio setups with soft lighting and a neat menu; others feel like a flat with the camera propped on a bookshelf and the radio on. Neither is better, and plenty of viewers find their favourite in the less tidy corners.

As for the chat, a ciao opens almost any door, and buonasera works nicely from late afternoon onward. The tone of each room is up to its host, and the room's own description usually hints at where the evening is heading. If a favourite disappears for a stretch in high summer, holidays are the likeliest reason, and the board tends to fill again once the season turns.
